Maintenance Instructions

 

Your Reading truck equipment has been designed and manufactured to provide years of trouble-free service with a minimum of maintenance. Please follow the simple maintenance procedures as outlined in the Reading Owner’s Manual.
 
ALL PRODUCTS
  1. Touch up any damaged paint surfaces. Prime the area and apply finish touch-up paint.
  2. Rinse ice and snow removal chemicals from lower door threshold and underbody components to help prevent corrosion.
NOTE: Whenever accessories, such as lights or brackets, are installed on the body, make sure they are properly reinforced and all holes are sealed thoroughly to prevent water seepage.
 
STEEL OR ALUMINUM SERVICE AND ENCLOSED BODIES
  1. Tighten all body mounting bolts and “U” bolts after 60 days service and at approximate 6 month intervals thereafter. 
    1. Torque all mounting bolts and nuts to 60 to 65 ft. lbs. 
    2. Torque all double nut “U” bolts to 20 ft. lbs. and second nut to 45 ft. lbs. Consult your installer for proper procedures on spring-mounted bodies. 
  2. Oil all compartment door hinges and tailgate hinge brackets with light machine oil every 30 days. Apply a small amount of white lithium grease to lock mechanism yearly. 
  3. Do not oil lock cylinders on rotary or slam action locks – use powdered graphite.

PLATFORM, DUMP AND FORESTRY/CHIPPER BODIES
  1. Tighten all body mounting bolts and “U” bolts after 60 days service and at approximate 6 month intervals thereafter. 
  2. Torque all mounting and nuts to 60 to 65 ft. lbs. 
  3. Torque all double nut “U” bolts to 20 ft. lbs. and second nut to 45 ft. lbs. 

CAPS AND TOOL BOXES
  1. Tighten all mounting bolts approximately every 6 months.
  2. Every 30 days, oil all compartment door hinges with light machine oil and apply a small amount of white lithium grease to lock mechanism yearly. 
  3. Do not oil lock cylinders on rotary or slam action locks – use powdered graphite.

HOIST
  1. See Owner’s Manual that came with this product.
  2. Use all purpose hydraulic fluid only in the hoist system. Check the fluid regularly and change the fluid when dirty or semi-annually. The type of fluid to be utilized is marked on the pump reservoir.
