Aerotech® Panel Continues Reading Tradition For Hagy Plumbing Co.

Company Name: Hagy Plumbing Co.
Reading Products: Aerotech® Panel Body
Type of Service: Residential and Light Commercial Plumbing

When you have a business that has expanded as much as Hagy Plumbing Co. has in recent years, you can’t afford to take a chance on an unknown product. So when the time came for the residential, light commercial and custom remodeling company to buy a new truck for their business, the answer was obvious. They would purchase a Reading Aerotech Panel Body. “When you use something good, you stick with it,” explains Hagy Plumbing Co. president Lori Hagy. Reading has been a mainstay for the family-owned company since their inception in 1965.
The Lancaster, PA county-based company customized their Reading Aerotech® Panel Body with ladder racks and a step bumper. They utilize the spacious cargo area to haul toilets, whirlpools, sinks, vanities, showers and shower doors along with other large plumbing supplies. For smaller supplies, the Aerotech® body exterior compartments come in handy. “The compartments help us keep everything separate and in good order,” said Lori.
Standard features of the Aerotech® Panel Body include construction of two-sided A60 zinc coated steel combined with Reading’s Lectro-Life® immersion priming. The Lectro-Life® priming extends the body life by offering complete primer coverage to all areas of the body. Other standard features include rotary locks with Strattec cylinders for increased security of compartment doors; flange-mounted rubber door seals providing weathertight protection to the compartments and spring loaded door holds on each vertical compartment, holding the doors open at a 90 degree angle.
Hagy Plumbing Co. services a 4-county area within a 60-mile radius. That’s a far cry from their early days when they were strictly doing service work in Lancaster County. Lori and her husband Troy purchased the company in 1992 from the company’s founder, Omar Hagy, Troy’s dad, expanded the territory they covered and added remodeling to their repertoire. Though the business has quadrupled in the last decade, one thing has remained the same - a Reading truck body has always been a part of the Hagy fleet.
“Style and past performance is what keeps us coming back to Reading,” explains Lori Hagy, “Reading bodies have held up very well for us. That, of course, is their biggest attribute.”

Reading Service Body Continues to be the Product of Choice

Company Name: Joe Rossi & Son Plumbing, Heating, & Cooling
Reading Products: Spacemaker® Classic® Series Service Body
Type of Service: Service and Maintenance Vehicle

Joe Rossi recently purchased a Reading Spacemaker® Classic® Series Service Body, model US98ABSWR for his two businesses - Joe Rossi & Son Plumbing, Heating, & Cooling and Rossi Rooter Sewer & Drain Cleaning & Excavating. He uses the body as a service and maintenance vehicle. The body was mounted on a 2000 Ford F250 chassis. According to Joe, he purchased a Reading Spacemaker® Classic® Series service body because “I have been using Reading bodies since 1955.”
The Reading Spacemaker® Classic® Series service body features exterior storage compartments with an open cargo area and optional top opening compartments for an additional 15% of storage space. An optional ST-98SW sliding top was mounted over the cargo area to provide cover and weathertight protection to valves, fittings, repair equipment, a jack hammer, and pipe threading machines which Joe transports.
Servicing two businesses with one truck, Joe utilizes the spacious body compartments for carrying plumbing supplies and all heating and cooling equipment. The compartments also hold underground testing equipment including a TV camera used in his sewer cleaning, drain cleaning, and excavating business. The TV camera is a special piece of equipment that is crucial in locating a blockage. A pipe may be broken, and the camera gives them a visual picture of the condition inside the pipe, providing the depth and exact location of the problem so they know precisely where they need to dig in order to repair it.
Joe Rossi customized the Reading Spacemaker® Classic® Series service body with a removable overhead ladder rack, a pipe rack, compartment lighting, and Latch-Matic®. This is a remote control, spring loaded master locking system that locks and unlocks all side compartments simultaneously. It is a convenient time saving feature providing security to tools and equipment.
Joe, his son Joe Jr., and his grandson Michael Terbovich, provide commercial, residential and industrial markets with plumbing, heating, and air conditioning under the company name Joe Rossi & Son. Under Rossi Rooter, they perform sewer and drain cleaning in addition to excavating. They have been in business for 60 years, servicing a 20 mile radius area. Their fleet consists of eight vehicles including another Reading Spacemaker® Classic® Series service body, two pickups, and three vans.
The Reading Spacemaker® Classic® Series service body was purchased through Powell’s Sales & Service, an authorized Reading distributor, located in Clarks Summit, PA.
Standard features include construction of two-sided A60 galvannealed steel and Lectro-Life® immersion priming for complete rust protection. Other standard features include automotive-quality rotary locks for secure protection to tools and equipment; stainless steel bolt-on hinges keeping the compartment doors operating smoothly in all weather conditions; and double paneled compartment doors offering greater durability.

Reading Aerotech® Panel Body Worth the Wait

Company Name: Braunwarth Plumbing and Heating
Reading Products: Aerotech® Panel Body
Type of Service: Residential plumbing and heating installation and service

The cliché, the best is worth waiting for, holds true once again. John Braunwarth, owner of Braunwarth Plumbing and Heating, attests to this statement.
Braunwarth purchased a brand new 1999 F450 crew cab chassis for his work and recreational vehicle. While waiting for the arrival of the chassis (due in April 1999), he began discussions with his Reading distributor, L-Z Company, St. Paul, MN, about what body to have mounted on the chassis.
He looked at the line-up of Reading service bodies and enclosed bodies; and saw what he liked in the Aerotech® service body. The Aerotech service body is an aerodynamic service body offering exterior storage compartments and an open cargo area. But because of the types of parts he needs to transport, Braunwarth wanted an enclosed cargo area.
Word had already spread that Reading would be introducing an enclosed body version of the Aerotech® service body (since dubbed the Aerotech® Panel Body). So, L-Z passed that word on to Braunwarth. Without ever seeing a prototype or drawing or having a concrete price, Braunwarth decided he would wait for the introduction of this product. And, he placed his order with L-Z.
He was working out of a pickup truck with a Reading Space Cap at the time, and decided he could continue to work with that until the Aerotech® Panel Body became available. Although the Space Cap was very practical, Braunwarth decided he wanted more storage capacity with more exterior storage compartments and the enclosed cargo area.
Braunwarth Plumbing and Heating provides residential services to a 50 mile radius around Young America, MN.
A few months passed by, and Braunwarth was still patiently waiting. Curiosity did get the best of him though. One July afternoon he decided to call Reading to inquire about the Aerotech® Panel Body’s status. Braunwarth found out that it would be approximately another six to eight weeks before the distributors were officially introduced to the Aerotech®Panel Body. A little frustrated but determined to wait, Braunwarth explained that he had the chassis and was just waiting for this product.
Instantly, word spread through Reading’s plant that a customer had his truck and was waiting for the Aerotech® Panel Body. As luck would have it, Braunwarth got one of the very first Aerotech® Panel Bodies produced by Reading.
When asked how he likes his Aerotech® Panel Body, Braunwarth responded “I’m really glad I waited!”
What’s so special about the Aerotech® Panel Body? Like it’s counterpart, the Aerotech® service body, t is the only aerodynamic service body completely constructed of steel. It features die-formed side and end panels and concealed compartment door hinges, adding to the streamlined, aerodynamic look. Access to the cargo area is available through rear double doors.
In order to manufacture such a product, it requires special machinery, tooling and dies and a large monetary investment. Prior to introducing the Aerotech® service body, Reading spent 4 million dollars on equipment and dies. The Aerotech® Panel Body utilizes the same tooling and dies for the body’s lower structure as used for the Aerotech® service body. An additional million dollars was invested by Reading in order to manufacture the Aerotech® Panel Body’s upperstructure.
Braunwarth purchased the Aerotech® Panel Body, model PB-N110FDW. He chose to equip the enclosed body with the optional upper access compartments. These compartments, located on the body’s upperstructure, offer access to tools and equipment stored in the cargo area on the upper shelf. He also chose the optional aluminum deck plate gravel guards, protecting the body front from splatter kicked up by the tires.
L-Z Company fabricated 6" aluminum PVC pipe carriers and mounted them to the cargo roof.

Reading Space Cap Helps Plumber Stop Leaks

Company Name: CW’s Plumbing
Reading Products: Space Cap
Type of Service: Residential Plumbing

When CW’s Plumbing was looking for a pickup cap that was large enough to hold all of their plumbing tools and that would last, they bought the best - a Reading Space Cap.
Another very important factor to CW’s Plumbing was the fact that Reading Space Caps are weathertight, keeping all valuable tools and equipment safe from outdoor elements. According to Cort Wahl, owner of CW’s Plumbing, “I was searching for a cap for two years, and then I found the Reading Space Cap.”
A Reading Space Cap features weathertight exterior storage compartments, providing quick, easy access to frequently used tools and equipment. Access to the cargo area is available through a rear lift-up door. In lieu of the standard lift-up rear door, Cort opted for dual rear doors for easy walk-in access. Cort also opted to increase the cap by eight inches. The eight additional inches provides more headroom and storage inside the cargo area.
CW’s Plumbing provides plumbing service throughout Colorado. The Space Cap was purchased through O.J. Watson Co., a Reading distributor located in Denver, Colorado.
The longevity of Reading Space Caps is due to the two-sided A60 galvannealed steel combined with Reading’s exclusive Lectro-Life® immersion priming, providing the most complete rust and corrosion protection in the industry. Other standard features include flange-mounted automotive rubber door seals around compartments protecting valuable tools and equipment form moisture; slam action rivet-on locks keeping doors secure; and a five year limited warranty.
