Have Reading Body, Will Travel

Company Name: Mumford Construction
Reading Products: Aerotech® Service Body
Type of Service: Mausoleum Roof Construction

To paraphrase a line from a well-known baseball movie, “If they build it, he will come.“ That pretty much sums up the philosophy of Randy Mumford, owner of Mumford Construction, when it comes to his work.
No place is too far away for Mumford to travel to get the job done. From as far north as Massachusetts, to as far west as Indiana, and as far south as Florida, Mumford and his Aerotech® service body will be there if it’s time to “build it”. And what exactly is “it”? Mausoleums, or to be more precise, beam and deck roofs for mausoleums.
Mumford Construction, a 2-man operation, specializes in building these types of roofs for one of the nation’s largest mausoleum builders. Because it can take up to 3 or 4 months to construct these roofs, the job takes him away from home for extended periods of time. In addition to the roof construction, if the need arises, Mumford and his “crew of one”, will also do carpentry work in the offices of the mausoleums as well.
Mumford needed a truck body he knew would hold up through the wide range of elements he would encounter in the various climates he works in. Mounted on a Ford F350 diesel, Mumford summed up why he chose Reading. “I liked the style of the Aerotech, I had pretty good luck with them before. Plus, they keep my tools secure and dry.” He jokingly added that although he enjoys driving, a good sound system in the Ford chassis helps break up the monotony of the extensive road trips.
He utilizes the body compartment to carry basic carpentry tools such as drills and saws, and hauls scaffolding in the cargo area.
The Aerotech® Panel body was purchased through Binghamton Truck Body & Equipment, an authorized Reading distributor, located in Binghamton, NY.
Standard features of the Aerotech Panel body include construction of two-sided A60 galvannealed steel and Lectro-Life® immersion priming for complete rust protection. Other standard features include automotive-quality rotary locks for secure protection of tools and equipment; stainless steel bolt-on hinges keeping the compartment doors operating smoothly in all weather conditions; and double paneled compartment doors offering greater durability.

Research on Reading Pays Off for K & L Contracting

Company Name: K & L Contracting
Reading Products: Custom Spacemaster Service Body
Type of Service: General Contractor

After taking a tour of Reading Truck Body’s impressive 335,000 sq. ft. facility, Kevin Foote, owner of K & L Contracting, was convinced that he wanted a Reading body. He was enamored with the paint processes and rust proofing that Reading utilizes in addition to the door seal, hinges, layout, and overall looks of the body. “Reading is miles ahead of the competition,” stated Kevin. He purchased a custom Spacemaster Body, model SPM57-HD150ADW and had it mounted on a C6500 GMC low pro conversion chassis. It features weathertight exterior storage compartments and an enclosed cargo area with double rear doors.
Kevin is a general contractor who does anything and everything from home building to remodeling including all plumbing and electrical work. His service area encompasses a 40 mile area, therefore, he needs to ensure his truck is well equipped with all the necessary tools, equipment, and supplies. “Valuable time and money is lost when you are not equipped for everything,” stated Kevin.
The spacious body compartments of the custom Spacemaster Body allow him to store tools such as lasers, saws, air guns, compressors, hammers, drills, small parts, and everything needed for electrical and plumbing work. The large enclosed cargo area is efficiently utilized for carrying a table saw, wood, and lumber materials.
Kevin customized his unit with the Latch-Matic® master locking system. Latch-Matic® is a remote control locking system, used in conjunction with master locking, that locks and unlocks both body sides simultaneously from a distance of up to 25 feet. Kevin modified the system so that even the back doors work on it. In addition, he can open all compartments and rear doors manually if needed.
The Spacemaster Body was also customized with a stainless steel ladder rack, aluminum step bumper, “J” hooks in the compartments for hanging air hoses and extension cords, and rubber mats that line the compartment bottoms. A shelf was built in the enclosed body behind the cab for additional storage, and pipes were attached to the bed floor to stop the load from shifting while the vehicle is in motion. An engine mounted air compressor and a 3000 watt power inverter were mounted in the cab. This will enable Kevin to work from his truck should there be a power outage.
K & L Contracting has been in business for 20 years serving both residential and commercial customers. They purchased the Reading custom Spacemaster Service Body through Crest Truck Eq. Co., Inc., an authorized Reading distributor, located in Bowmansville, PA.
Standard features include construction of two-sided A60 galvannealed steel and Lectro-Life® immersion priming for complete rust protection. Other standard features include automotive-quality rotary locks for secure protection to tools and equipment; stainless steel bolt-on hinges keeping the compartment doors operating smoothly in all weather conditions; and double paneled compartment doors offering greater durability.

Features Entice RWL Construction to Buy Reading

Company Name: RWL Construction
Reading Products: Classic® Series Service Body
Type of Service: General Contractor

RWL Construction purchased a Reading Classic Series® service body, model 132FADWR, to utilize as their service vehicle. They chose to have the body mounted on an F550 Ford chassis. The Classic Series® service body features exterior storage compartments and an open cargo area.
According to William Sommi, Project Manager, “The determining factors in purchasing the Reading Classic Series® service body were the Latch-Matic® master locking system, Grip-n’-Glide® drawers, which are awesome, and the door hinges. These features are better than your competition.”
Latch-Matic® is a remote control locking system, used in conjunction with master locking, that locks and unlocks both body sides simultaneously from a distance of up to 25 feet. This feature was particularly important to William because some of the areas he has to work in require that his tools and equipment be safe and secure. Grip-n’-Glide® is a unique drawer unit for storage of smaller parts, and utilizes an ergonomically designed J-latch system which allows the user to open and close the drawer with one hand.
In addition to Latch-Matic® master locking and two Grip-n -Glide® drawers, RWL Construction customized their Reading Classic Series® service body with a pintle hook for towing, a power inverter, and an AeroRack™ ladder rack. The AeroRack™ ladder rack is constructed of aluminum.
William stores every tool imaginable in his Reading Classic Series® service body including a circular saw, jack hammer, wrenches, a laser, and drills. “There’s not a tool I don’t have in the compartments,” said William. The cargo area is efficiently utilized to store a 100-gallon diesel fuel tank and still has enough room for 8 ft. boards of sheet rock and plywood, a compactor, and a wheelbarrow.
RWL Construction is a general contractor who performs site work, demolition work, and just about everything else. They’ve been in business for 20 years, employ five personnel, and subcontract additional people, as needed. Their service area includes Long Island, Queens, and Brooklyn, New York. Their fleet consists of about 35 vehicles which includes pickups, heavy equipment, and a Reading platform with a dump.
The Reading Classic Series® service body was purchased through R. W. Truck Equipment Corporation, an authorized Reading distributor, located in Farmingdale, NY.

Buying a Reading Body is a “No Brainer”

Company Name: Tumlin & Sons
Reading Products: Classic® Series Service Body
Type of Service: Commercial Construction & Concrete

When Tumlin & Sons decided they needed a new utility body to add to their fleet, it didn’t take them very long to decide what to purchase. It was a “no-brainer”. They would buy a Reading Classic® Series service body. The body is being utilized as a service vehicle.
Reading has been a mainstay in the Harrison, OH company for 18 years. In fact, they are still using the same Reading Classic® Series service body they bought in 1983. “All we’ve had to do is replace a couple of door handles,” explained Doug Tumlin, superintendent. The durability factor of Reading’s products is a big reason why Tumlin & Sons has only purchased Reading utility bodies.
“We like the quality and appearance better than the others,” said Tumlin, “The competitor’s quality didn’t match up with Reading’s quality. And Reading has better quality beds and the cargo space is better utilized.”
They customized their Classic® Series service body with a ladder rack and a mesh headboard behind the cab. Extra storage boxes were mounted on top of the existing compartments.
Tumlin & Sons is a general contractor specializing in concrete work and commercial construction. They have been in business 20 years and employ anywhere from 15 to 20 people. Their service area covers 7 counties in 3 states: Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. 6 body fleet consists of 4 Reading bodies and 2 single-axle dump trucks.
The Reading Classic® Series service body was purchased through Ohio Truck Equipment, an authorized Reading distributor, located in Cincinnati, OH.

Reading Products: Classic® Series Service Body
Type of Service: Custom Home Construction

P.T. Nilsen & Sons Construction Corp. recently purchased a Reading Classic® Series service body, model U98ABSW-R, to utilize as their service vehicle. The body was mounted on a Ford F250 super duty chassis. The Classic® Series service body features weathertight exterior storage compartments and an open cargo area.
The Classic® Series service body was customized with diamond plating over the compartment tops, a 2" pintle ball combination, and an AeroRack™. The AeroRack™ is a modular aluminum ladder rack system with many useful features for improved efficiency such as a wide profile truss design, sliding cargo anchors, ratchet tie downs, and a removable rear crossmember.
P.T. Nilsen & Sons Construction Corp. also purchased a similar Reading Classic® Series service body, model 108GABDW-R. This body was mounted on a Chevy 3500 Series. In addition to the same custom features as the first body, they included other options to make this body suited to their needs. The body was increased in height by 5" for more storage capacity. Aluminum gravel guards were mounted to the front of the body to protect it from road splatter kicked up by the tires. The edge of the tailgate was wrapped in polished aluminum for additional protection against scratches when loading and unloading materials in the cargo area. Aluminum brushed corner guards were added to the rear body corners for additional protection against chips and scratches.
According to Robert Nilsen, co-owner, he and his brother Dave purchased Reading Classic® Series service bodies because “we like the latch mechanism, the doors are removable and easily replaceable, and we love the understructure. We’re planning to get longer life out of the Reading bodies.” They are very happy with the bodies and plan to add another one to their fleet.
The Classic® Series service bodies aid them in carrying and transporting materials to the construction site. The body compartments are efficiently utilized to carry carpentry equipment and compressors, and the spacious cargo area transports building materials needed for each job.
P.T. Nilsen & Sons Construction Corp. builds custom private homes within 360 square miles between Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess counties in New York.
Standard features include construction of two-sided A60 galvannealed steel and Lectro-Life® immersion priming for complete rust protection. Other standard features include automotive-quality, rotary locks for secure protection to tools and equipment; stainless steel bolt-on hinges keeping the compartment doors operating smoothly in all weather conditions; and double paneled compartment doors offering greater durability.

Reading Aerotech® Service Body is a Traveling Workshop

Company Name: Ted Micka, LLC
Reading Products: Aerotech® Service Body
Type of Service: Barn Repair & Restoration

Ted Micka, LLC recently purchased a Reading Aerotech® service body, model N110FSW-99, and had it mounted on an F350 Ford Superduty chassis. The Aerotech® service body is an aerodynamic service body constructed of 100% steel (no plastic parts) with exterior storage compartments and an open cargo area.
According to Ted Micka, owner, he purchased the Reading Aerotech® service body because “image is important. The Aerotech® service body gives the impression of a professional, and I really look prepared for the job. I get an awful lot of comments on it. It’s an excellent product, and I would consider purchasing another one.”
As a “Barn Doctor”, the Reading Aerotech® service body aids Ted in his unique business of repairing and restoring old barns. He travels as far as five hours for special projects such as saving a barn for its uniqueness, and has been in the restoration business for 10 years.
Ted utilizes the compartments to store ropes, cords, steel brackets, hand and power tools, a torch set, chain saw, laser levels, pulleys, etc. In addition, he uses the horizontal compartments as a table surface. Ted likes the amount of things he can put in the compartments while not compromising the bed area which he needs to haul wood, cement, mortar, a compressor, generators, and construction equipment. For convenience and efficiency, he can use a forklift to load the materials in the bed.
Ted likes the fact that he can carry a lot on his Aerotech® service body and go far. He uses every inch of space to store all his materials. “It’s almost a complete hardware store on the truck,” says Ted. It has to perform for him.
Ted customized his Aerotech® service body with a ladder rack which is also capable of being loaded with a forklift. He added marine plywood to the bed floor and behind the cab so the heavy wood he carries slides easier and prevents dents in the body. Marine plywood was also sealed to the compartment floors for additional protection to the compartments. Rings were installed on the bumper to pull heavy trailers, and hooks were added in the compartments to hold additional items.
The Aerotech® service body was purchased through Fitzgibbons Fleet Fabricators, Ltd., an authorized Reading distributor located in Jackson, MI.
Each Aerotech® service body is completely constructed of two-sided, zinc-coated, A-60 galvannealed steel, which provides the first layer of rust protection. After the bodies are assembled, they receive Reading’s Lectro-Life® immersion priming process providing the most complete rust and corrosion protection in the industry.
Concealed compartment door hinges and heavy-duty automotive style rotary locks aid in making the Aerotech® service body tamper proof. The compartment doors feature a deep press-formed inner panel making the door more resistant to bending. All hinges and locks are bolted in place for easy replacement.

Bereda Construction purchased a Reading Aerotech® Service Body because of its “quality and looks,” and ’I highly recommend it because of its all steel construction.” The Reading Aerotech® is an aerodynamic service body constructed of 100% steel (no plastic parts) with exterior storage and an open cargo area.
M. D. Bereda Construction chose to have the Aerotech® mounted on a GMC 3500 dual wheel chassis and had it customized with various features. The Latch-Matic® system was installed on the body for ease of operation. Latch-Matic® is a remote control locking system, used in conjunction with master locking, that locks and unlocks both sides simultaneously from a distance of up to 25 feet.
In addition, Mark Bereda had stainless steel stone guards added to protect against road splatter, and a self-fabricated ladder rack of mirrored, polished, stainless steel was installed on the body. The logo graphics were extended throughout the Aerotech® service body as well.
The spacious body compartments are utilized for storage of hand tools, and the open cargo area of the body houses their roofing materials, saws, compressors, and generators, creating efficiency and organization on the job.
M. D. Bereda Construction is a commercial general contractor and has been in business for the last eight years, specializing in roofing and sheet metal in the tri-state area of Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey. Their fleet consists of five service bodies which they utilize as service vehicles.
The Aerotech® Service body was purchased through Crest Truck Eq. Co., Inc., an authorized Reading distributor, located in Bowmansville, PA.
